kitchen project on a budget

Who doesn’t want to save space on their kitchen counter tops?  We are living in a small-spaced, one bedroom apartment for a long time now and we are having a scarcity of space as days go by.  Of course, I will think of every possible space-saving ideas I could think of just to see space anywhere. Haha.

I always think of space saving ideas for my favorite part of the house… my kitchen.  So far, that’s all that are posted here in my house project’s category.  This time, my space-saving project is for my kitchen knives.  Though I don’t own a lot of knives; I have a couple of knives, bread knife, spatulas and a cake slicer, I still wanted them off my counter top.

As I promised, I’ll be posting how I will  create the menu planner board posted in the last part of my previous entry of Kitchen Project on a Budget.

I know it is not essential in a Filipino household to create a menu planner board for their everyday menu planning, still my creative mind wanted to make one but without spending too much.   Now, here’s how I made my menu board just spending less Php70.00 on the art decorations.

The only art materials I bought for this kitchen project was the glue stick and the food themed scrapbook materials, that is just less than Php 70.00.  The cork board and wood clips are gifts and the construction paper is from Little Zoie’s school supplies from last school year, Kinder 2.

The cut out of the word ‘Menu’ was written by my youngest sister-in-law who have very creative mind and hands, on the other hand, haha, I didn’t succeed in cutting a very artistic name of days. ^_^

The finish product…

I still have to hang this on my kitchen wall beside the wall grid storage.

Simple but very useful.

Care to share your organization projects at home?  I would love to see them, just link them at the comments below.

Small kitchen apartments have trouble with storage and organization, though I have acquired less kitchen wares and stuff, I am one of those who did not do anything with it for a long time.  I thought that since I am just renting the apartment I don’t want to spend on installing pricey storage solutions for my convenience.

It took me long enough to realize that organizing your stuff, not only kitchen stuff, needs to be expensive just to unclutter your kitchen.  I thought wrong, like for example finding solution with my unorganized cookware lids, see I only have a few.

unorganized lids
I bought this… actually, I don’t know what it is called but I saw this idea this kind of storage in one of the pins in Pinterest. Which only costs me Php 66.00 at Japan Home Centre.

The original idea I planned was to use this for storing bread without the worry of ants getting to it so easily, then again I thought of another clever way to make use of this handy storage item… storing my cookware lids!

I have installed it at the corner end of the cabinet, just not to get too much attention on it. The built-in storage cabinet installed in the apartment doesn’t have any cabinet doors. I also installed a hook at the back of the grid storage because the lids is too heavy for it carry without any support. I know it will give away for less than two days. Hooks are only Php 39.75 for a set of five so it is really not out of the budget.

Now, the final touches…

I better grab another one of these again for my bread-storing idea… Haha!  You can use this idea too.

After the long wait for the after look of my first post of kitchen project on a budget, creating a storage solution on a unused wall, you can now find below the final outcome of my project…
kitchen storage grid done

As stated, this project only costs me Php 469.50, this includes

  • black coated grid
  • black coated s-hooks
  • screws and anchors

This storage provides convenience for homeowners who lives in a small-space apartments, especially with a tiny kitchen to move around.  Over the years, kitchen stuff are increasing and the limited overhead closet space is getting cramped and cramped.  And this organization solution is a great help.

Now, what’s my next kitchen project, hopefully still on a budget…
